Escalator/ Travelator Engineer Existing Installation/ Maintenance Training

This training programme is for engineers who are involved in the maintenance and servicing of existing escalator and travelator products. This advanced training programme examines advanced maintenance practices, fault finding, performance feedback, compliance with international safety design, in particular AS1735, for escalators and AS1418 for travelators and escalators. Engineers develop the competent skills to coordinate effective, preventative and reactive maintenance works that delivers safe, efficient and reliable performance of escalators and travelators located in commercial, residential and public infrastructure.Participants work through and develop a comprehensive understanding of essential mechanical and electrical subsystems (e.g. step chains, handrails, drive units, safety circuits, and control systems). Engineers understand how to design and develop planned maintenance schedules for operation, implement risk assessments, and understand how to undertake planned and staged modernisation or upgrading processes once escalator and travelator systems are considered out-of-date. Emphasis is put on safety methodology, environmentally sustainable and energy efficient escalator and travelator operation.

Importantly, participants will be trained-in to troubleshoot inherently complex problems and then coordinate, or operate with crews, technicians and other engineers (e.g. emergency service operatives), based on accurate and efficient documentation protocols in the maintenance, compliance and other documents. Engineers are able to effectively coordinate and manage escalation teams to perform planned maintenance works, providing a spare parts inventory/risk-reduction strategy and to enable the use of statutory inspections, to comply with industry compliance obligations. In conclusion, engineers have the technical competencies and coordination and management functions that enable safe operation and maximum performance of existing escalators, or travelators, which provides increased safety for passengers, a high standard of operation with minimal downtime in their performance.
